Download a printer-friendly version.

On January 19, 2010, the California Occupational Safety & Health Administration (Cal-OSHA) announced a voluntary recall of the 3M 8000 series respirators. The recall notice states that the subject respirators may fail fit-testing requirements creating a health hazard for users.

It is important to note that this recall was issued by Cal-OSHA only. 3M has not issued a recall of these products at this time.

Due to the H1N1 outbreak in 2009, various recommendations were developed by the California Department of Public Health to control the spread of the disease. One such recommendation was the use of N95 respirators. On October 22, 2009, the State of California purchased a stockpile of respirators for distribution to various agencies, including educational agencies.

ASCIP Members that received N95 respirators from the California Department of Public Health should review the respirators to determine if any 3M 8000 series respirators were received. Members that identify 3M 8000 series respirators should remove these from inventory supplies immediately.
