The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools has released the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) grant application for fiscal year 2010.

The REMS grant provides financial assistance to educational entities for the purpose of establishing emergency management programs. Programs are typically required to comply with the standard emergency process structure: Mitigation/Preparedness/Response/Recovery. In addition, this grant program allows funding to be used for staff training and development as it relates to emergency management procedures.

The 2010 grant program is a competitive program and "limits eligibility to local educational agencies (LEAs) and consortia thereof. Note: The REMS grant competition limits eligibility to applicants that do not currently have an active grant under this program."
