SUMMARY:Regional Event: Indoor Air Quality Management for Schools
DESCRIPTION:Target Audience: \nHuman Resource Administrators\, Risk Managers\, Workers’ Compensation\, and Maintenance and Operations \nTrainer:\n \nGerard Baril\, CIH and David Brinkerhoff\, CIH\, CIEC – Forensic Analytical Consulting Services\, Inc \nHow to Register:  \nEmail Kimberly Kennedy at kennedy@ascip.org by February 22nd. \nAdditional Information: \nLunch will be provided. \nIndoor Air Quality Best Practices – Indoor air quality (IAQ) can impact the health\, comfort\, well being and productivity of building occupants. Though it is a major concern\, it is not a simple\, easily defined concept like a leaky faucet. IAQ involves complex factors such as: sources and pathways of pollutants and odors; design\, maintenance and operation of building ventilation systems; moisture and humidity; and occupant perceptions and susceptibilities. \nWe will discuss the factors that affect IAQ\, comfort issues\, and the role of district personnel and occupants in maintaining a healthy indoor environment.  You will learn the tools to address student and staff concerns regarding headaches\, allergies\, and other non-specific intermittent symptoms. You will learn how to determine when an IAQ assessment is needed\, thereby eliminating the need for potentially extensive\, expensive\, and sometimes unnecessary testing. \nIndoor Air Quality During Wildfire Events – The immediate risk of a wildfire is obvious; however\, the secondary environmental health impacts of these events often catch districts by surprise and generate multiple questions such as: Is the air OK? What’s in the ash? Is my building safe to go into? What do I tell staff\, students\, community members and the press? \nWe will discuss these risks and associated solutions in the context of recent catastrophic wildfire events. Attendees will learn about the dynamics of these issues and how to protect their staff\, student\, resources and reputation in order to stop a bad situation from becoming worse. \nThere is no charge for ASCIP members and our invited guests to attend this event. \n
