SUMMARY:REGIONAL-Appropriate Student-Staff Interaction
DESCRIPTION:Target Audience: \nSuperintendents\, Human Resource Administrators\, Risk Managers and Principals \nTrainer:\n \nDr. Glenn Lipson\, Making Right Choices \nHow to Register:  \nEmail Kimberly Kennedy at kennedy@ascip.org by November 26\, 2019 \nAdditional Information: \nStaff-student interaction affects learner engagement at many levels. Student relationships with staff are considered to be central to student engagement and their learning. Staff-student interaction is a two-way\, dialogic relationship where district staff’s role is to influence\, guide and provide feedback on what the student does. Furthermore\, effective engagement may come from situations in which the student initiates the interaction. \nDue to the nature of staff-student interaction\, actions by staff members that are inconsistent or in conflict with the values established by the District can harm students\, staff members\, and the District’s operation. \nThis lunch and learn will provide attendees with the knowledge and skills to enhance their ability to MAKE RIGHT CHOICES. Attendees will learn how to define appropriate boundaries\, identify acceptable and unacceptable behavior\, recognize and respond appropriately to unacceptable behavior\, recognize the early signs of misconduct\, prevent and identify what constitutes student “grooming”.  Special emphasis will be placed on how to break through the culture of denial and how to implement on-going training for administrators and staff. \n  \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Kimberly Kennedy at (562) 404-8029. \nThere is no charge to attend this event for ASCIP members or our invited guests. \n

SUMMARY:REGIONAL-Field Trip Liability\, Waivers\, Digital Signatures\, & Permission Click
DESCRIPTION:Target Audience: \nSuperintendents\, Human Resource Administrators\, Risk Managers and Principals \nTrainer:\n \nChris Johnson\, CEO of Permission Click \nHow to Register:  \nEmail Kimberly Kennedy at kennedy@ascip.org by November 26\, 2019 \nAdditional Information: \nWe’ve all been there:  The rush of adrenaline and panic when we learn a student was injured during a field trip or district-sponsored excursion.  A flood of questions and activities follow. The list of possible issues is as endless as the list of potential outcomes. \nTo control these risks and panic-inducing situations\, districts spend thousands of hours and countless resources annually developing and updating policies\, procedures\, and expectations\, with no visibility into whether or not they are being followed.  While well intending\, these policies often add to an ever-increasing teacher workload\, creating bureaucratic inefficiencies\, and additional administrative costs. \nWe will discuss lessons learned from these experiences and review policies\, processes\, and enforcement tactics that may alleviate these tricky situations.  Attendees will learn industry standards\, be active participants in problem solving solutions for their policy and compliance pain points\, and leave with actionable items for implementation within their district. \n  \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Kimberly Kennedy at (562) 404-8029. \nThere is no charge to attend this event for ASCIP members or our invited guests. \n  \n

SUMMARY:REGIONAL-Indoor Air Quality Management for Schools
DESCRIPTION:Target Audience: \nHuman Resource Administrators\, Risk Managers\, Workers’ Compensation\,                           Principals\, and Maintenance & Operations. \nTrainer:\n \nMichelle Rosales\, MPH\, CIH and Madeleine Dangazyan\, MS \nForensic Analytical Consulting Services\, Inc (FACS) \nHow to Register:  \nEmail Kimberly Kennedy at kennedy@ascip.org by January 17\, 2020 \nAdditional Information: \nIndoor air quality (IAQ) can impact the health\, comfort\, well-being and productivity of building occupants. Though it is a major concern\, it is not a simple\, easily defined concept like a leaky faucet. IAQ involves complex factors such as: sources and pathways of pollutants and odors; design\, maintenance and operation of building ventilation systems; moisture and humidity; and occupant perceptions and susceptibilities. \nWe will discuss the factors that affect IAQ\, comfort issues\, and the role of district personnel and occupants in maintaining a healthy indoor environment.  You will learn: \n\nthe tools to address student and staff concerns regarding headaches\, allergies\, and other non-specific intermittent symptoms\, and\n\n  \n\nhow to determine when an IAQ assessment is needed\, thereby eliminating the need for potentially extensive\, expensive\, and sometimes unnecessary testing.\n\n  \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Kimberly Kennedy at (562) 404-8029. \nThere is no charge to attend this event for ASCIP members or our invited guests. \n
