The landscape around electronic communication (including texting, email, and social media) continues to rapidly evolve. The technology driving AI and deepfakes is moving quickly, while strong legal protections and policies struggle to keep up. Within this framework, schools are continually facing challenges surrounding appropriate and ethical use of electronic communications and AI. Questions abound on how/when to use electronic communications with students, how to talk to them about AI, what policies schools should consider adopting to protect themselves and their students and how to even recognize the difference between AI/deepfakes and real content.
